What’s the origin of Solacetree?
As the co-founder of Solacetree, I, Kate, had personal experiences with childhood trauma and depression that opened my eyes to the importance of emotional well-being. I thought I was just going through a rough patch, but the feelings of hopelessness and lifelessness persisted for years. It wasn't until I connected with Dr. Albert Chan, an experienced psychology professor, that I finally found the professional support and guidance I needed to significantly improve my mental health.
Inspired by my own journey, as well as the struggles of close friends who also faced mental health challenges, including one who tragically took her own life, I began to think about how I could use my experiences to help others. After discussing options with Dr. Chan and conducting extensive research, we developed the idea for Solacetree - a counselling platform designed to make professional support and mental wellness resources more accessible and affordable.
Solacetree's mission is to promote open and supportive attitudes towards mental health, empowering people to take an active role in their personal growth and emotional well-being. Through features like online counselling, self-guided webinars, and a private journal, we strive to create a safe, confidential space for individuals to explore and address their emotional issues. As a team of Christian founders, we are grateful for God's grace and hope Solacetree can be a beacon of comfort and guidance for all who seek it.
Where does the name “Solacetree” come from?
One of our founding members came up with this name during a Bible Study session. The word “solace” is defined as comforting, and we hope this app can comfort your heart in a time of distress or sadness., and promote positive personal growth.
Who are the counsellors?
Counsellors of Solacetree are licensed, trained, experienced, and accredited psychologists (PhD / PsyD), marriage and family therapists (LMFT), clinical social workers (LCSW / LMSW), or licensed professional counsellors (LPC). All of them have a Master’s Degree or a Doctorate Degree in their field. They have been qualified and certified by their state’s professional board after successfully completing the necessary education, exams, training and practice. While their experience, expertise and background vary, they all possess at least 3 years and 2,000 hours of hands-on experience.
Our Core Team

Dr. Albert Chan
DIRECTOR
Dr Chan is a Clinical Psychologist Professor specializing in depression, anxiety, couple relationships, parenting, trauma, sleeping disorder, and family issues, etc. He has over 20 years of counselling and training experience in HK, Taiwan and China. Dr. Chan will also be responsible to recruit and supervise licensed counsellors in the region.

Ms. Christina Leung
COUNSELLOR
A NLP Master Trainer and a Craving Change Licensed Therapist, Christina has almost 12 years of experience in marital relationships, LGBT, depression, anxiety, cancer survivors, substance additions, trauma, parenting, and personality issues.

Justin Tsui
I.T. Director
Justin holds a M.S. Degree in Computer Engineering from UC of Irvine. His extensive experiences include IT solution architecture and implementation, Cloud & Mobile strategy evaluation and implementation. Justin will be responsible for managing the app development, tech solution plus all IT-related operations.

Video chat allows you to chat with counsellors in real-time with ease. You can choose to show your face or not during the chat session.
People who have an online counsellor ultimately feel safe with their therapist. Think of a person who has endured sexual abuse or been involved in a domestic violence situation. You are able to reveal these secrets because you feel a strong sense of anonymity having a relationship with an online therapist. Other advantages of using this modality of therapy include cheaper cost, time-saving on commuting, and privacy.
We also have counsellors who are specialized in specific issues, such as stress, anxiety, relationships, parenting, depression, addictions, eating and sleeping problems, trauma, anger, family conflicts, self-esteem and more.
